Manga, musicals, makeup-superstar (and former Sparkling cover guy) Kim Hyun Joong gives us a quick chant and lets us in on whats on this lucky guy’s radar at the moment.

Sparkling Magazine: Nice to see you again! Please tell us about your second mini-album Lucky.

KHJ: Hello! Unlike my last album, which is more the heavier type, the Lucky album is lighter and can be enjoyed with a lot of fans at the same time. It’s easygoing.

Sparkling Magazine: So how do you feel about your mini-album making it to the Top 5 of the Billboard World Album Charts? And what was the first thing you said when you found out?

KHJ: The first thing I said was :Unbelievable”. I didn’t expect anything much, but I put as much effort as I could into this album and I’m planning to have better ones.

Sparkling Magazine: Why did you pick Ocean’s Eleven as the inspiration for the MV of “Lucky Guy?” Who thought of the concept?

KHJ: I did. The reason I chose this was that I wanted to act as a brat! Haha!

Sparkling Magazine: Great strategy! Also, your current album has more rock ‘n’ roll influences than the last one. Would you consider playing the guitar or bass guitar live at one of your future stage performances?

KHJ: I’m planning to have those instruments played during my stages, but my concept cue sheets aren’t really ready yet, so nothing is really concrete. But I would definitely like to play those instruments.

Sparkling Magazine: Your dance steps feel like they could be part of a musical. Would you consider starring in a musical in the near future as well?

KHJ: There are no plans of joining the musical yet, being an actor and singer at the same time, I’m really busy. And I’m not really confident in that field!

Sparkling Magazine: You’ve said in the past interviews that you want to play a bad guy for your next role. Who are your favorite bad guy characters?

KHJ: Because there are so many characters out there, it’s really hard to set the standard of “bad guys.” I will try to set the standard of being my own “bad guy.”

Sparkling Magazine: As an actor and singer, you often gave to wear makeup while filming and promoting. Have you ever tried applying makeup on your own?

KHJ: Never.

Sparkling Magazine: What product from The Face Shop would you recommend as a good gift for friends?

KHJ: Because most of my friends are guys, I would like to recommend the guys, I would like to recommend the E’Thym products because they’re really simple, yet maintain moisturizing effect.

Sparkling Magazine: We heard you like soju a lot too. Do you also like sake? Do you use The Face Shop’s Sake Nourishing Lotion?

KHJ: I haven’t used the Sake Nourishing Lotion yet because there are so many products from The Face Shop! But I definitely take sake… occasionally. Haha

Sparkling Magazine: So how has your skincare routine changed, now that the weather is much colder?

KHJ: Now that the weather’s colder my skin and lips are getting cracked. I apply lot of moisturinzing creams and lip balms.

Sparkling Magazine: Do you enjoy winter sports, like snowboarding and skiing?

KHJ: I don’t really like winter sports, so I stay at home most times during winter.

Sparkling Magazine: The weather is warm in the Philippines. What The Face Shop product would you recommend to your Filipino fans?

KHJ: Because it’s really hot in the Philippines and a lot of people are exposed to the sun, I recommend sun protection and sun block, and the BB Creams that contain it.

Sparkling Magazine: What product from The Face Shop do you always keep in your bag?

KHJ: BB Cream and sun creams.

Sparkling Magazine: Who is your favorite superhero?

KHJ: I don’t have one.

Sparkling Magazine: You like reading manga a lot. What manga title are you reading now? Are there plans to come up with a U:Zoosin manga?

KHJ: Currently on the websites of my management team, there are the cartoons available using the character U:Zoosin. The fans can read this, although it’s in Korean.

Sparkling Magazine: Do you have any lucky charms? What’s your lucky number?

KHJ: I don’t have any lucky charms and there isn’t exactly any lucky number.

Sparkling Magazine: What makes Kim Hyun Joong a lucky guy?

KHJ: There’s nothing that makes me lucky; I’m lucky myself.

By LazerKim: Kim Hyun Joong debuted in 2005, as a singer together with his members SS501. May I just give a bit of briefer. Hyun Joong started gaining attention from 2009 when he did, Boys Over Flower until such time he moved in to KeyEast in 2010 right after his contract termination at DSP. A remarkable blast of popularity came up when Hyun Joong debuted his first mini album in June 2011. He started the year 2012 with another explosive popularity boosting.
Did you notice anything with Hyun Joong’s career phasing? Every year every single step he makes his popularity grows. In fact he had achieved showing his talents since BOF in 2009 when he started gaining attention, in just a matter of three years and I would say that’s quite fast enough for a rookie. Evidently every time he goes out there on his public exposure his number of fans increases, and we have seen it in Japan on Feb. this year. Every time I watch the video of that crowd he created, gives me a shiver.

I came across a news about Bi Rain being in the military training camp, after I read the article, my mind linger about the thoughts of the Korean Military mandatory training, when a KHJ fan buzz in with this comment, on my article Without You that says, ”10 days without Hyun Joong feels like 10 years, what more when he gets in to Military training for 2 years.” I laughed at that because we’re having the thoughts!! It’s been such a dull boring days lately without Hyun Joong around and you read news about military training makes me think ahead!! But let’s talk about it, just to kill your time!!
Kim Hyun Joong being a star celebrity is not excluded from the said mandatory military training which every Korean male citizen has to undergo upon reaching the age 30, and Hyun Joong has four years from this year, before he starts with the training for two year. Thinking of four years looks far from the present. Not so positive for a celeb like Hyun Joong. If you watch his video interviews and if asked about his future plans, he has so many plans that he wants to accomplish. I can only read in between lines of what he was saying, but for me I wanna tell him………kiddo go for it and hurry up!!. To agree with me or not, Hyun Joong has to do what he ought to do as in right now!! And I think he has that in mind and he had considered his military training period.

Time is ticking, a thin time line starts to surface when he turned 25 in June 2011. What is reality here? He had just started doing solo last year, that gave full eight month of nonstop success. Hyun Joong is a singer and actor, but he can not do both at the same time and that he has to take one step at a time. He is given 5 years to accomplish what he has to. These are all reality that he has in his hands. And I never doubted, he’ll be able to accomplish what he wants before he enters the military training.
Every star celeb would like to establish his own legacy, that’s very natural to artist specially if he’s popular. And that doesn’t exclude Hyun Joong, and by all means, he has every ability to establish his legacy in his own rights. Now let’s look into its possibility to attain his legacy before he enters the military.But please let’s disregard the natural instinct of negative option. Let’s speculate just for once to ease our boredom from dragging days without Hyun Joong!!!

Hyun Joong is due to enter the military in 2016, that gives him 4 years to accomplish his goal. In my assessment he has to at least work on 2 to 3 mini albums and at least one drama a year. Hyun Joong is smart to settle in doing mini albums, than a studio album which is time consuming. If he can maximize his time in a year I think he can do it. If I were in his shoes I would grab this chance to concentrate on his music this year and work on a drama towards the end of the year, if he really wants to pursue with his acting career immediately. And then another fan commented, that she wished Hyun Joong would do a drama, she said, at least we get to watch him regularly at least twice in a week!! She’s right.
I couldn’t eliminate the option of Hyun Joong on doing drama because there’s high demand on him to do so. You can’t blame Hyun Joong. Do you know that his fans are spoiled!!! Hyun Joong literally give in to whatever his fans wishes from him? Haven’t you notice it?? Do you know that you are lucky fans because you are following a very considerate Kim Hyun Joong!! Oh you should know that!!

Oh well, this is the reality of Hyun Joong’s career life. He has four years left to go, then let’s make the most out it. But I wish as soon as he gets out of the military, he has to be given immediate project, to patch up with the lost time. But I have only two wishes for him, that he’ll gain more fans in four years and I wish he’ll be able to accomplish as much before that time comes. Anyway, we’re just speculating and I do not want to think of “anything can happen” kinda thing for a while.
Ten days of hearing nothing from Hyun Joong feels like ten years of emptiness! And yes what more with two years of nothing at all!! Anyway, we still have a long way to go, so let’s start picking bits and pieces of memories to be kept in our hearts. Let’s enjoy every moment when Hyun Joong is around and reminisce our past with him. Well, I can only write anything about Hyun Joong that you can always keep in your mind and heart. Just like one of his fans said, “Hyun Joong is my stress reliever”. That’s good, he’ll always be in your company, just keep on reading about him. Nothing else matter, near or far he’s always at your side. He actually said that, “I’ll always protect you.”
If the time comes, he enters the military, what will you do? What are we going to do? That will be two years waiting!! Actually two years is quite short nowadays, by that period of time, there will be many new faces coming up, another celeb will surface. Why not, I’ll probably be watching Kdrama again as I normally do before I got crazy with Hyun Joong. Of course it’s very likely that we’ll be watching those new face, the question is, will you be doing the same thing as what you are while Hyun Joong is around? Will you be following the new comer celeb? Will you be as passionate as you are now by that time?

For me, this is my first time to experience this passion for admiration. But you know what, Hyun Joong is different. I’ve been watching Korean drama since 2004, there are many Korean actors that became my favorite, but none of them captured my passion to a single celeb including Hyun Joong’s boss. None of them had ever pushed me to write about them, none of them pushed me to hit the internet in search of them, in which technology was never been my interest. Hyun Joong pushed me to all of these.
But ever since I met him and the time I was starstruck on Hyun Joong, internet became my life, his fans became my morning coffee mate, Hyun Joong literally changed my life. None of the famous celeb not even in Hollywood had ever done this to me! Have you asked yourself if Hyun Joong had already pushed you that far? Well, I’m a new fan, what more with the veteran fans who’s been there all his career life? Hyun Joong had been in their lives that long. I don’t think I’ll ever be doing this to another celeb, what more with them, they have already grew up having Hyun Joong around them.
There are many things likely to happen by that time comes. We still have a long way to travel with Hyun Joong. So let’s just travel his journey, enjoy it, make the most and the best while he creates a lot of memories for us to remember as we grow with him.
Whatever time line there is in reality, it doesn’t matter for as long as we’re together with Kim Hyun Joong….. LazerKim here writing.

Kim Hyun Joong has been making quite a name for himself in Japan with his solo activities. He’s just landed an endorsement contract with Japanese cosmetics company, ‘Slim Beauty House‘, as their TV advertisement model.
The singer has become the second Korean star to endorse a Japanese cosmetic company, coming just behind Jang Geun Suk.
His first CF was released on February 23rd, and it’s easy to see why the public holds a soft spot for the handsome singer. Kim Hyun Joong looks almost ethereal dressed in all white, and asks in his gentle voice, “Would it be okay to like you?”

[news] Kim Hyun Joong sells out copies of An-An magazine!

Kim Hyun Joong receives explosive interest from Japanese Fans. On the 11th of February, Oricon News reported that Kim Hyun Joong was chosen as the cover model of the new issue of popular An-An magazine in Japan.

In the release of the magazine, they placed a huge poster of Kim Hyun Joong on Omotesando, Japan and when fans came by of the news, they flocked the venue immediately. When fans saw the poster, much anticipation was set and the official's had to set out security guards due to the huge crowd.

An official of the magazine set, "The issue where Kim Hyun Joong was the cover was being sold online through Amazon, however it is already temporarily unavailable due to it being out of stock because of huge demands".

Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong recently debuted in Japan and released his debut single "Kiss Kiss/Lucky Guy" which topped the Oricon charts due to high album sales and interest from fans.

ผมเพิ่งได้ดูรายการ 옹달샘 (เป็นรายการวาไรตี้) แม้ผมจะไม่ค่อยได้ดูทีวีนัก แต่วันนั้นเผอิญเปิดไปเจอ แล้วได้ดูคุณยูเซยุน (เป็นดาราตลกของเกาหลี)

Question 2: สิ่งที่ทำให้คุณร้องไห้ครั้งล่าสุด

ผมไม่ค่อยร้องไห้ แม้ว่าจะดูหนังเศร้าๆ ก็ตาม คือมันน่าอายสำหรับผมถ้าเพื่อนมาเห็นว่าผมร้องไห้ แล้วผมก็ไม่ไปดูหนังคนเดียวด้วย

ผมจำไม่ได้อ่ะครับ ช่วงที่ผ่านมาก็ไม่ได้โกรธอะไรหรือใครเลย ผมไม่มีความรู้สึกโกรธในตัว ผมเลยจำไม่ได้ว่าเมื่อไหร่

หรือเรื่องอะไรที่ทำให้ผมหัวเสียครั้งล่าสุด ผมคิดว่าเวลาที่คนโกรธคือเวลาที่เขารู้ว่าตัวเองไม่สามารถแสดงออกตามที่ตนต้องการได้

ความโกรธไม่ได้ทำให้อะไรเปลี่ยนแปลง ผมคิดว่าสิ่งที่ฉลาดมากกว่านั้นคือพยายามอย่างดีที่สุดในการแก้ปัญหา

ผมก็ควรจะทำอะไรที่เกี่ยวข้องกับดนตรี ผมไม่สามารถอยู่ได้ถ้าปราศจากดนตรี มีหลายคนที่ทำงานด้านธุรกิจที่เกี่ยวกับดนตรี

แม้ว่าเขาจะไม่ใช่เอ็นเตอร์เทนเนอร์ ดนตรีเป็นสิ่งที่มีอยู่รอบๆ ตัวเราอยู่แล้ว ผมคิดว่าแม้แต่เสียงริงโทนของโทรศัพท์ก็เป็นดนตรีชนิดหนึ่ง

HJ: ปีที่แล้วผมไม่ได้มีวันหยุดเลย เพราะมัวแต่ยุ่งก็เลยจำไม่ได้ว่าใช้เวลาว่างยังไง ในช่วงที่ตารางงานยุ่งมาก

แล้วก็มีทัวร์คอนเสิร์ตที่ญี่ปุ่นในเดือนพ.ย. ปีที่แล้วก็ถือว่าเป็นประสบการณ์ที่มีค่าของผม ผมมีความสุขมากที่ได้เจอแฟนๆชาวญี่ปุ่น

Question 1 :  What made you burst into laugh recently ? 

Recently I saw “옹달샘 (a variety program) “.  Though I don’t usually see TV,
I happened to tune in, seeing Yu Se-Yun ssi (유세윤, a Korean comedian ) mimic many animals !  It was so funny that I burst into laugh though though I rarely did it. 
 
Question 2:  What made you cry most recely? 

I rarely cry, even though I see a sad-story movie.  It’s a shame for me if friends recognize me to cry.  Oh I don’t go to cinema alone, always with someone.
However, I cried once on June 7, the last year on the occasion of the showcase in Seoul which was the first event for me as a solo artist.   I shead tears without knowing by myself.   Though my eyes were full with tears, but I did not cry. 

Question 3:  For what you felt angry most ?  

I don’t remember .  I didn’t get angry recently.  I don’t have a feeling of angry in myself.  Therefor, I cannot remember when and for what I got upset last time.
I think that people get angry when they know they cannot be self-assertive.  Anger does change nothing.  I think that it is much wiser to try best in problem –solving. 
 
Question 4:  If you were not an artist, what had you been doing?

I  should have been doing something related to music.  I cannot live without music.  There are many people working in music-related business even though they are not an entertainer.  Music naturally exists around people.   I think that even a mobile ringtone is a sort of music ……… but I always keep my mobile in a silent mode (laugh).   I feel embarrassed if someone recognizes the ringtone of my mobile. 

Question 5:  You are a member of  FC MEN, an artists football team. Which is the best position for you?

The positions are not fixed actually.  If I am in good shape, I attack in a forward position, but if not, I go back and defend.   But I feel confident being FW as I  can kick both-handed.  I can kick a shoot both-handed; that’s my strength

During these 18 days in Japan, (Kim Hyun Joong) still ate his favourite food which are ‘Ramen’ & ‘Rice with Beef’ and played mini soccer even though he was busy with promotions & activities of his debut single, it seemed like he spent this period of time productively.

Kim Hyun Joong’s debut in Japan is taking his popularity in the country even higher.

Kim met with 20,000 of his fans in his Premium Live 2012 concert on February 5 in the Yokohama Arena. The concert came just 12 days after his debut album was released on January 25.




In the concert, Kim performed many of his hits including Kiss Kiss, Lucky Guy and Breakdown, and sat down with his fans to talk about his experiences in Japan.

Thousands of fans lined up in front of the Arena waiting for its doors to open five hours before the event was due to start, and some fans who weren’t able to get tickets appeared with pickets in the hope that they could get last-minute tickets.

Many prominent Japanese media outlets such as Fuji TV, Nihon TV, TV Asahi, Nikkan Sports and Sankei Sports rushed to cover the fans gathered in front of Yokohama Arena to see Kim, and showed their interest in the power of his popularity.

Kim made a successful solo debut in Korea with his first and second solo mini albums and his digital single album, and his success continued with his solo debut in Japan. His debut album ranked in the top 3 of the Oricon chart with its release on January 25 and blew through 100,000 sales in its first week.

Kim Hyun Joong plans to release his follow-up single Lucky Guy on February 6.

       Singer Kim Hyun Joong is famous for his snappy suits and roguish style, so when rehearsal photos from his upcoming concert in Japan revealed a ‘street sweats look’, they instantly made headlines.
       On February 3rd, Kim Hyun Joong came in for stage rehearsals dressed in comfortable sweats, a large hoodie, and an oversized beanie. Though he looked casual, the singer was anything but as he checked sound on the stage and practiced his dance moves.
       Kim Hyun Joong will be putting on his ‘Japanese Premium Live Concert’ on the 5th, where he’ll perform the Japanese versions of ”Kiss Kiss“, “Lucky Guy“, “Break Down” and more. He will also converse and interact with his fans while on stage.

Singer Kim Hyun-joong is enjoying huge popularity in Japan since his solo debut there. He had already gained a steady fan base there with boy band SS501 and his part in the hit drama "Boys Over Flowers."

Having released his Japanese debut single titled "KISS KISS/Lucky Guy" on Jan. 25, Kim held on to the second place on the Oricon weekly charts by selling over 100,000 copies in the first week. He is being bombarded with requests for appearances on major music programs on NHK, TV Asahi and Fuji TV.
