What’s in a name ? A lot. The world knows you by that identity from the day you are born to the day you die and even for a long time after. Your name may not be unique. Go to facebook and you’ll know why. Everytime you travel ,the authorities at the port of entry subject you to further verifications, if you really are what you claim to be.
When  we were  children, our identity were  attached to that of our parents -the child of so-and so. Then growing up it was up to us to carve our own name so that it eventually stands out . Then it becomes -the parents of so-and so.
In numerology ,they say our names were no accident.. Kim Hyun Joong’s name has the number 9. According to www.what’s your sign.com ,number 9 people “represent attainment, satisfaction, accomplishment and success to achieve an influence in his circumstances.” Number 9 people should “recognize their internal attributes and extend it out to the world to make positive, influential differences.” In addition number nine symbol is planet Neptune/Universal influences. Very interesting. Do you think number 9  really describe Hyun Joong ?
It is up to us to make our names stand out and it also depends on our environment. US President Barack Obama is proud to have been given by his parents an African name Barack meaning blessed – he said his name is no barrier to success in America.
Richard Branson famous for his Virgin Airlines, his audio music stores and reputed to be UK’s 5th richest businessman declared, “the music industry is a strange combination of having real and intangible assets,pop bands are brand names in themselves and at a given point in their careers their name alone can practically guarantee hit records.” Branson must have been referring to the Beatles, Freddie Mercury’s group ,Kiss , Mick Jagger’s all world renowned names to mention only a few.
Kim Hyun Joong was attached to a pop idol band and subsequently became its face as some have adriotly observed.Mention SS501 and people have Kim Hyun Joong in mind and vice versa. Can we say the same of their group as Branson has stated ? Of course not, the spread of SS501 fame has not spread beyond SK and its immediate environ. The point here is the branding . Being acclaimed , being known and recognized . Who is the perfomer who doesn’t dream or aspire to be such ?
Since the expiration of their groups’s contract with their talent management company DSP, Kim Hyun joong has gone solo. A year and more than six months later , he  has released two music albums ,the first of which is a certified hit and has been credited as  highest selling for a solo artist. He is  slated to go on an Asian tour, as well as planned a World Tour . But Kim is a multitalented performer having acted in major roles in two dramas , Boys Over Flowers and Playful Kiss.These two dramas have been released in Asia with the latter in extended episodes in YouTube , a first time. A lot of commercial advertisers in South Korea made him their official endorser as well as international  ones for Basic House, Face Shop and Japan’s Aeon Heatfact.Kim is also a bass player and dreams one day when he has done all the dancing and singing to his heart’s  content , to form his own band .
Being leader of SS501 for five years, its assocaition with the tag ,has its upside and downside. Today, after more than a year of going solo being managed by Key East, fans still call him leader . But there are also many who call him Hyun Joong because that is how they met him when he played Joon Jihoo in Boys Over Flowers and in reverse order only then knew he had a singing group as well. The latter fans are the ones who have no difficulty calling him by his own name : Kim Hyun Joong. Incidentally, unlike others in the entertainment field , he has not used a screen name.
So what’s in his name now ? Plenty is an understatement, because his name now is synonymous to self management, planner, competitive and challenger, indefatigable worker, dreamer, calculated risk taker , ethical team player , good manered.The list simply go on . At a young age , Kim Hyun Joong knew what he wants to do with his life and designed his career early on. In spite of his achievements, there is plenty of work to do. He is in a hurry ,going like a speeding bullet aiming  towards his targets.
‘My name is Kim Hyun Joong’, he now proudly tells the world. Solo singer, solo perfomer . ‘Watch out for me , for I have many more of what I am capable to do to show ‘… One day, it will come , Kim Hyun Joong will have planted his mark in the music world. We will know by listening to his songs , the musical accompaniment , the concept behind the MV, that is him : Kim Hyun Joong .
